Fifteen years ago, while building a successful career as a development
executive in the film industry, Barbara Lewis-Marco suffered a series of
disabling back and leg injuries that thrust her onto a path she never
expected to take. Her at times desperate search for healing led her to
a deep exploration of the mind/body connection, resulting in a personal
quest to bridge the worlds of traditional and alternative medicine. The very
long list of experiences along the way included the best and worst of what
both the "new age", and western medical/ surgical techniques had to
offer. This journey took her into the heart of the psychological,
philosophical, and spiritual questions at the core of life's most difficult
and
painful challenges, and through it she managed to hold on to her sense of
humor (and sanity!).
After giving birth to a son, Barbara finally decided to leave her position in the film business and
began transforming her healing experience into art. Her mixed media photographic
work first appeared in New York galleries in 1990, and a six page spread of
her pieces entitled "Splices of Life" was published in Ms. magazine in 1993.
She has continued to show her work and was recently nominated for a
New York state arts grant. For the past several years she has been creating
her art on computer.
Through her unique blending of words and image, Barbara Lewis-Marco
wants to inspire us to contemplate that no matter how difficult our
experiences,
we all share the same innate understanding of the very deep, wonderful,
mysterious, and sometimes darkly humorous truths about life.
Barbara has joyfully healed and currently lives and appreciates
life in NYC.
